Wiki so far.

I have not written anything on the wiki yet, but I plan on adding some information on the MMORPG page. I've written a paper on it this semester and I feel I've found some nice possible updates for that page. Should work on it soon.

The Next New Thing

The more and more I watch the television, the more I find commercials with references to Facebook and Twitter. It seems interesting that there are so many companies now that uses these online programs. Even phones have internet access to these now too. It seems that soon, facebook will be plagued with more company advertisements than it already is. It seems this would be inevitable. Perhaps the next new thing could be another internet service that allows people to get together to post and maybe even video "calls" much like skype. All the while with less advertisements to go with it.

Privacy and Confidentiality

New media raises some questions when it comes to videos and sometimes even blog posts. Not all videos are originally about the person who posted it up. Sometimes it is embarrassing videos of others that they have caught. Videos could also get in to violations of copyrights, but that's not for here.
Blogs or tweets could also be bring up questions of privacy and confidentiality. Again like videos, many things can be written about others. And since twitter and other social sites have huge connections, it can do what word of mouth could do in a much faster rate. Embarrassing incidents and horrible lies could spread around like a wild fire.

Advice to Baruch College

New media could improve the learning environment of students. When it comes to discussion boards, it can give students time to think about topics, post and respond. It could be a great way for many classes to get students to think about their classes after they have left the room already.
Introduction to more uses of videos in-class would be well received also. Many students in the current, and future generations would be in constant contact with videos from the internet. Use tools online tools to teach in class like videos would actually help the learning process.

Twitter Discussions

That was lot more hectic that i had first thought. The site itself is simple, but its harsh on the eyes to navigate through all those tweets to find some that i felt i could comment on. Just seems like too much going on at a time, and too limited on how much one could write.

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Virtual worlds can cater to many differing backgrounds and has many uses. Some uses these worlds simply as a way to get away from the real world, to play as something else. Others can use it as a fun new way to have meetings from people around the world. From "At Hearing, Real and Virtual Worlds Collide", even large companies and government officials could use virtual worlds to meet together and chat about anything. In their meeting many questions were asked because, "in an era in which technologies can catch on and become mainstream quickly, the subcommittee on telecommunications and the Internet wanted to know some basics."
Using the technology could be very useful because it can give a sense of presence being there in the virtual world with others. As if you are almost physically attending something. On the other hand, it could also be choppy, unrealistic, and might even get out of hand if people aren't even really at their computer screens.
I personally enjoy mmorpgs and the idea of a virtual reality. I have great hopes in its developments as both a great use to be used professionally, and recreationally.

Social Networking

These social networks seem to be a very easy way to keep in touch with people. People can start an account with something like Facebook, add friends, whether from their work place or from school and BAM, they open up a whole new network for themselves. Friends of friends, new people from states away, suddenly you are connected, whether you talk or not, you gain a whole network to utilize. The networking isn't always the best part of it either. Some use these sites just to keep in touch with people they might not normally call or see too often. Others use it just for the little games the sites have.
Facebook has a very good update system where people can post twitter-like messages. Its growth can be attributed to how easy and how effective and fun it can be. As written by Virginia Heffernan in Being There, they are like "spontaneous bursts of being: perfect."
Perhaps in the future, there can be more uses to help find jobs or even become a closer knit craigslist.
